Reasons to study Early Childhood Development
The course has been developed in consultation with employers, higher education institutions and professional bodies.
It only takes up one block so you can study other A-Levels / L3 courses alongside it.
Students can expect to progress to university to study courses that involve working with children (primary school teachers, paediatric nurses, social workers, speech therapist).
What you will study
The core modules consist of: The Role of the Early Years, Childcare and Education Practitioner as well as human development from conception to 19 years. You will also undertake a placement as part of this course.
What you will need
DBS clearance
GCSE grade 4 or above in Maths, English and if you are planning on a career in teaching you will also require a grade 4 in Science
Ability to work independently
Reading and research skills
Experience working with children would be beneficial but not essential
How you will be assessed
Internal assessments. In addition, learners will be required to achieve a minimum of a pass grade for a synoptic short answer examination, which will be externally set and externally assessed.

Various trips such as a residential in London where you will visit The Children’s Museum. Trip to Disneyland Paris. Visits to universities to explore their Early Years and Health-related degrees as well as a tour of their campus, taking part in lectures and finding out other general information relating to tuition and accommodation fees.

Progress to university to study Social Work, Primary School Teaching, Nursing and other related degrees or you may wish to continue further training to achieve the Early Years Educator Status.
